When to Consider an Evaluation
Sometimes you can tell that something just isn’t clicking, but it’s hard to pinpoint why. An evaluation can help you get clarity, understand what’s going on, and learn how to best support yourself or your child.
For Children & Teens
You might consider an assessment if your child:
Struggles in school or seems to learn more slowly than peers
Spends hours on homework every night
Does well in some subjects but not others (for example, strong reading skills but difficulty with math or writing)
Shows signs of developmental delays or seems behind in certain skills
Has trouble paying attention, following directions, staying organized, or completing tasks
Seems frustrated, anxious, or discouraged about school or learning
An evaluation can help answer the “why” behind these challenges and give you a clear path forward.
For Adults
Evaluations aren’t just for kids. Many adults seek clarity later in life and find the process incredibly validating. You might consider an assessment if you:
Have trouble focusing or staying organized
Often feel overwhelmed at work or school
Feel like you’ve always had to work harder than others to keep up
Struggle with reading, writing, math, or memory, and aren’t sure why
Wonder whether ADHD, autism, or a learning difference could explain lifelong patterns
Want to better understand yourself and how your brain works
Getting an evaluation can help you understand your strengths, identify what’s getting in the way, and learn practical strategies to make everyday life easier.
About our assessment services
We are committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Our evaluations focus on accurate diagnosis, meaningful insights, and practical, individualized recommendations.
Our mission is to provide families and individuals with clarity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of their strengths and challenges. Using evidence-based tools and a neurodiversity-affirming, person-centered approach, we look beyond surface-level symptoms to identify the full range of factors that may be contributing to current concerns. This allows us to guide families toward the right resources, supports, and long-term pathways to success.
Whether you’re seeking answers, school accommodations, treatment recommendations, or simply peace of mind, we are here to help you move forward with understanding and direction.
Our Child Evaluation Process
We aim to make every step of the assessment experience supportive, clear, and comfortable for both you and your child. Here’s what you can expect:
1. Initial Parent Interview
Your clinician will meet with you (without your child present) to discuss your concerns, learn about your child’s developmental, medical, and educational history, and understand what you hope to gain from the evaluation. This conversation helps us tailor the assessment to your child’s unique needs.
2. Assessment Sessions
Your child will participate in 4–8 hours of testing, scheduled over one or two days depending on their age and stamina.
Younger children often complete their assessment in a single day.
Older children sometimes benefit from splitting the sessions over two days.
During the evaluation, we use a combination of activities—such as games, puzzles, problem-solving tasks, and questions—to understand how your child thinks, learns, and processes information. Most children find these activities engaging and enjoyable.
3. Feedback Session & Comprehensive Report
Once testing is complete, we meet with parents to review the results in a clear and meaningful way. You will receive:
A detailed explanation of your child’s strengths and areas of need
A comprehensive written report
Personalized recommendations, which may include school planning and advocacy, therapy, or behavior support strategies
Our Adult Evaluation Process
We aim to make your evaluation experience supportive, comfortable, and straightforward. Whether you’re seeking clarity about attention, learning, memory, or overall functioning, our process is designed to give you answers and practical next steps.
1. Initial Interview
Your clinician will meet with you to discuss your concerns, your personal and educational history, and what you hope to learn from the evaluation. This one-on-one conversation helps us understand your experiences and tailor the assessment to your individual needs.
When helpful, we may also gather input from people who know you well—such as a partner, close friend, or family member. This is always done respectfully and only with your consent. Their perspective can offer valuable insight into how your strengths and challenges show up in everyday life.
2. Testing Appointment
Most adult evaluations can be completed in one day of testing, typically lasting 4–7 hours with breaks provided as needed.
During the assessment, you’ll complete a series of tasks that may include problem-solving activities, memory exercises, questionnaires, and other measures that help us understand how you think, process information, and navigate daily demands. The setting is calm and supportive, and many people find the process surprisingly engaging.
3. Feedback Session & Comprehensive Report
After the evaluation, we meet with you for a dedicated feedback session. During this appointment, you’ll receive:
A clear explanation of your strengths and challenges
A comprehensive written report summarizing your results
Personalized recommendations, which may include workplace strategies, therapy options, academic support, or lifestyle approaches to help you function at your best
Our goal is for you to walk away with clarity, validation, and a concrete plan for moving forward.
